Natural Dyeing with Seasonal Produce
Learn how to extract a vibrant range of colors from vegetables and berries! Students will help prepare dye vats and learn the basic methods and techniques behind the art of natural dyeing. Using prepared natural fibers—fabric and paper—you’ll create swatches for each dye color before moving on to dye tea towels, transforming them into functional works of art. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a strong understanding of how to create natural dye vats at home and a new appreciation for the amazing colors nature provides.

Botanical Bundle Dyeing
Learn the beautiful technique of bundle dyeing with freshly harvested flowers. You will be amazed at the patterns and colors that emerge after steaming flowers wrapped in silk! All supplies, such as fresh flowers, teas, silk squares, silk scarves and binding materials will be provided.

Botanical Printing on Paper
Easy and playful…. We will print with an assortment of leaves, flowers, and teas. Rolling, stacking and arranging them in an assortment papers. We will play with modifiers to shift colors with rusted tin cans and copper as well. Students will leave with a wonderful assortment of papers that can be used for art projects, cards and framing.
Botanical Dip & Dye
Color Explosion! Using natural dye baths brewed from produce and botanicals, students will explore color by dipping, folding and binding fabrics into baths to create wonderful patterns and color palettes. Students will leave with a wonderful selection of fabric swatches and a choice of creating a finished dish cloth, scarf, or produce bag.

Nature provides us with an amazing palette of color whether it be flowers, berries, teas or spices. Some are wonderful to pick and pop into vase, many are edible and they also can be the source of color for dyeing. Trunk Show: Collaboration with Nature
A Collaboration with Nature are an assortment of eco printed and natural dyed art pieces that are a direct connection with my relationship with nature. Whether playful or moody each piece reminds me of the gift that nature shares with us, every print revealed from a leaf or a petal will be unique based on species, the season, the climate, the soil and the time of day it was foraged.
The artwork includes various compositions with materials including plants, paper, silk and linen mounted and framed, column lanterns and a selection of scarves.
Eco Printing Autumn Leaves & Flowers
The fall season provides a beautiful palette of colors and textures that will reveal themselves in this fun class! We will Eco Print with an assortment of leaves, flowers, and teas stacking and arranging them in an assortment of fabrics and paper. We will play with modifiers to shift colors with iron and copper as well. Instructor will provide an assortment prepared natural artisan papers and fabrics, dye stuff, mordant, assists. Students will leave with a wonderful assortment of papers and fabrics that can be used for art projects, frame and holiday gifts!

You’ll be amazed at the patterns and colors that will emerge after steaming the bundles of nature in an assortment of fabrics and then a silk scarf. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite flowers from your garden. Since this class runs through lunchtime, please bring what you need to stay fueled and wear comfortable clothes that you don’t care about getting stained!

Summer flowers are wonderful to pick and pop into vase, many are edible tossed into salads, accents on appetizers and also a lovely garnish in beverages. This fun evening workshop will focus on the beautiful technique of bundle dyeing freshly harvested flowers. Each will reveal colorful crisp prints and watercolor effects that will emerge after steaming the bundles of materials in an assortment fabric swatches. Each student will also leave with a printed scarf. An assortment of flower adorned snacks and beverages will be shared.

Natural Dyeing Veggies, Berries & Tea
Join me at the Thousand Island Arts Center in Clayton, NY to to explore the abundant range of colors waiting to be extracted from your kitchen pantry. In this beginner workshop you will learn simple techniques behind the art of natural dyeing. Working with an assortment of prepared fabrics, you’ll experiment with adjusting colors using baking soda, vinegar and iron. Leaving with a stack of fabrics and your choice of dish towels or produce bags, you will be amazed by what gifts nature truly provides us! Please bring red and yellow onion skins, and two mason jars. Also bring what you need to stay fueled and wear comfortable clothes that you don’t care about getting stained!
